What if you were given a chance to make your own world? How would you want it to look like?

You can definitely experience making a miniature world, jungle, or garden while also putting your creative mind at work and that is by building a terrarium!

What is a terrarium? A terrarium is a miniature landscape of small plants that is grown in an enclosed or partially open clear container. It’s a great way for busy students, office workers, and people who do not have green thumbs to be able to grow plants since a terrarium is self-sufficient and only requires very minimal care.

What do you need in making a terrarium? There only a few basic things that you need to have in building your own terrarium: container, soil, pebbles or rocks, and plants.

Your choice of container is only as broad as your imagination. You can upcycle old jars, bottles, and fish bowls. You may also buy differently shaped glass containers. The presence of soil depends on the kind of terrarium that you will be making, like desert plant terrarium or air plant terrarium. Other than soil, some people even put moss and bark chips to their landscape as additional elements. You also need pebbles or small rocks for your terrarium. Placing them at the bottom layer is very important, as it serves as the drainage of your miniature garden. Lastly, the plants used in terrariums are usually succulents and air plants. Their size should be small enough to fit in the container without touching the sides. You can get all of these materials from gardening stores or you can simply go to www.hobstr.com to purchase a terrarium starter kit and get all of these without any shipping fee. The plants and containers are personalized so you get to choose from different kinds, shapes and sizes.

Some people build their terrariums with themes and you can also do this! By adding small toys or figurines you can have themes like Jurassic park, butterfly garden, Christmas, by the beach, and so much more. The possibilities are endless!

So how do you take care of a terrarium? You don’t. They say it’s better for it to dry than to be overwatered. Just water it every few weeks, depending on the size of the terrarium.  That would be enough especially since it is in an enclosed container, thus, the water just gets recycled.

There are other important tips in making and taking care of a terrarium and you will learn all of these for free when you get your awesome terrarium starter kit from Hobstr! Build your terrarium now and start creating your hand-made world of wonder.

Photography is like a living thing; it continuously grows. From film cameras to digicams, from developing pictures to saving them on memory cards, Photography has really gone with the flow of technological advancements.

These days, it’s pretty normal to see a camera with high shutter speed, high-resolution images, automatic settings, and all that kind of awesomeness. It is definitely fun to have such kind of gadget, but apparently, with these modern day things, we tend to forget about the old but original essence of photography.

Have you ever tried installing a fresh roll of film to a camera? Have you ever tried not seeing your photos until all of them have been developed? Have you ever been that patient…and excited?

Film Photography is something that this young generation of photographers should be able to try. Having experience with this traditional way of taking photos would surely make them more cautious with the process of taking pictures, instead of just clicking and deleting in just a matter of seconds.

Getting started with film photography is great with any of the toy cameras. However, personally I would prefer a Holga 120N as it is the most basic compared to the others. This toy camera will not only give you that old school photography experience, but also produce beautifully imperfect shots. With the light leaks that the camera may have, each photo will surely turn out different and special.

Toy Camera photography is also known as Lomography or simply Lomo. According to Lomography.com, There are 10 rules that define Lomography:

1. Take your camera everywhere you go.

2. Use it any time – day and night.

3. Lomography is not an interference in your life, but a part of it.

4. Try to shoot from the hip.

5. Approach the objects of your Lomographic desire as close as possible.

6. Don’t think.

7. Be fast.

8. You don’t have to know beforehand what you captured on film.

9. Afterwards either.

10. Don’t worry about any rules!

So whether you’re a seasoned photographer, or just starting out in taking pictures, a Lomo cam is perfect for you! Get a starter kit from Hobstr and you will surely enjoy going back to basics! Aside from the camera, film rolls are also included in the kit. But that’s not all. An online community and an online journal will also be provided by Hobstr.

Scrapbooking is a way of putting pieces of the past and present together for them to be preserved and be part of the future. By adding significant memorabilia such as photos, letters, tickets, candy wrappers, a leaf, or your thumb print, a simple book or photo album can be transformed into an instant time machine.

So is it hard to do? Does it require any expertise? Absolutely not! It’s as simple as cutting and gluing that even kids could do. With the right materials, wide and wild imagination, and natural creativity, you can definitely make something beautiful and meaningful that you and your loved ones will forever cherish.

Scrapbooking is more than just an art project. It’s about reliving, reminiscing, saving and celebrating.
